The CBI stopped two cases under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) without precedent for Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, stamping one more procedural move from the manner in which things used to work before the rejecting of its extraordinary status happened a month ago.
With Jammu and Kashmir turning into an association region from October 31, criminal cases in the area will be enrolled under the IPC rather than the Ranbir Penal Code.
For this situation, the CBI enlisted a body of evidence against Gram Rozgar Sahayak Mushtaq Hussain and Joint Engineer (Civil) Sandeep Singh, both appended to Jungrial panchayat in Rajouri region, for supposedly requesting a pay off of Rs. 50,000 each from Civil Contractor Anchal Singh as an end-result of clearing pending bills.
In light of another protest from Anchal Singh, the CBI recorded a second body of evidence under the IPC against Ashok Kumar – Junior Assistant with the Block Development Office in Rajouri region – on charges of requesting a pay off of Rs. 2,000.
